Bangkok's Earth Hour 2026: Let's Switch Off for the Planet! 🌍💡🌙
When: Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM ⏰
What’s Happening? 🌏
Bangkok is asking everyone—from residents to businesses—to join Earth Hour 2026 by turning off unnecessary lights and cutting back on energy use for just one hour. This global event, happening in over 190 countries and 7,000 cities, aims to fight global warming 🌡️ and promote a sustainable future 🌱.
How Can You Participate? 🕯️
It’s simple! For one hour:
- Turn off all unnecessary lights (like decorative lights, building lights, and signs) 💡🚫.
- Unplug any unused appliances ⚡🔌.
- Reduce the use of air conditioning ❄️🌬️.
- Even if you’re out on the streets or in a building, every little bit helps! 🌙
Symbolic Lights-Off at Iconic Sites 🏙️🌑
To make the event even more special, three of Bangkok’s landmarks will go dark for the night:
- Wat Arun (Bangkok Yai) 🕌
- The Giant Swing and Wat Suthat (Phra Nakhon) 🏰
- Golden Mount (Wat Saket) (Pom Prap Sattru Phai) ⛰️
Saving Energy, Saving Money 💵🌍
The campaign isn’t just about helping the planet—it’s also about saving energy and money! By switching off your lights and using less electricity, you can lower your electricity bills while helping Thailand conserve energy and protect the environment. 🌱💡
Why Participate? 🤔💚
This isn’t the first year Bangkok has participated. In fact, the city has been doing this since 2008. Over the last 18 years, the campaign has:
- Saved 22,617 megawatts of electricity ⚡💡
- Reduced 12,330 tonnes of CO₂ emissions 🌍🌫️
In 2025 alone, people in Bangkok saved 134 megawatts of electricity during Earth Hour! That’s like taking 485 flights ✈️ between Bangkok and Chiang Mai off the grid or turning off lights in 263,700 homes 🏠💡. 🌍✨
Let’s Make 2026 the Best Year Yet! 🎉🌟
Join Earth Hour and help save the planet—one hour at a time. 🌎💚
